Problem in getting the IDE disk controller driver working with linux kernel version 4.15.13

I am currently upgrading the Linux kernel version on one of our hardware boards from 2.6.17 to 4.15.13. We have a NAND flash controller from greenliant which supports PATA interface. The IDE controller driver support for this controller was available in the older kernel version under drivers/ide/ and we have been successfully using it on our board. The new kernel also has the support for this controller although the kernel documentation suggests it is no longer maintained and instead the use of the new libata driver is encouraged. However, we decided to use the old driver code available in the new kernel.
In the past, the driver was accepting the IOPORTS and IRQ number as arguments using the "option=" command line argument to the ide-core driver. Hence we passed the non-standard values to the driver for IOPORTS and IRQ. The new kernel source does not have support for this argument. Instead it uses the standard IOPORTS and IRQ values. I modified the kernel source to use our older non-standard IOPORT and IRQ values. But the driver is not able to detect the IDE Flash controller. I continue to get 0xFF status and as a result I cannot mount a filesystem on the 2GB flash disk used in the system using the controller.
Can somebody let me know what else I need to do in order to get the driver code in the new 4.15 kernel working for the flash controller?
Thanks,
Sachin.
