Retain app's file even when app is updated

0

I have the following code which writes to an app's directory.

 FileOutputStream fos = getApplicationContext().openFileOutput("entries.ser", Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(fos);
oos.writeObject(hm);

//Read file code

FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(getContext().getFilesDir()+"/entries.ser");
ObjectInputStream objectInputStream = new ObjectInputStream(fileInputStream);
hm = (LinkedHashMap) objectInputStream.readObject();

The problem is when I update the app, it no longer reads the saved file from the previous' app version. How do I fix this?
