How to fix “Uncaught ReferenceError: jwplayer is not defined at HTMLDocument” when using jwplayer API

0

I'm creating a google chrome extension that will use the jwplayer API to toggle English subtitles for a drama streaming website with a keyboard shortcut. The problem is that I'm not really familiar with using any sort of API and how to make the methods and objects available for me to use in my project.

I've tried statements like
jwplayer().setCurrentCaptions(index) and similarly I get the "Uncaught ReferenceError: jwplayer is not defined" error. I know I haven't defined jwplayer, but I don't know how to instantiate it either.

/*
Retrieves the shortcut value that the user has put in.
This value is saved by chrome.storage (settings.js)
The value is stored in shortcutKey

*/

shortcutKey = '[';
chrome.storage.sync.get("shortcutKey", function(key){
if(key.shortcutKey !== undefined){
shortcutKey = key.shortcutKey;
}
});

/*
Event Listener that detects when the shortcut key is hit.
When the shortcut Key is hit, the
*/
window.addEventListener("load", function(event) {

document.addEventListener('keyup', function(e){
if(e.key === shortcutKey){
console.log('shortcut pressed');
let allCaptions = jwplayer().getCaptionsList();
englishCaptionIndex = allCaptions.findIndex(caption => caption.label == 'English');
//Unfinished code
}
}
);

});

The code is unfinished, but I hope to the jwplayer() will be instantiate so I can access and use the methods in the jwplayer API.

  • If jwplayer is used by the page and you can access it in devtools console, all you need is to Insert code into the page context using a content script
