Key based encryption and Decryption in SQL Server
I am trying to convert a string to base 64 string and I was able to convert them using cast, but I need to use a key for encryption and during decryption the same key must be used. I don't have any idea about it. Have anyone tried it .
SELECT CAST('string' as varbinary(max)) FOR XML PATH(''), BINARY BASE64
For Base64 to string
SELECT CAST( CAST( 'c3RyaW5n' as XML ).value('.','varbinary(max)') AS varchar(max))
sql

Are you aware that Base 64 encoding has nothing to do with encryption? If you need encryption, you need to read up on the various mechanisms built into SQL Server for this and pick one that matches your threat model. Encryption isn't a magic wand and so you do need to have a threat model before you even start thinking about encryption. There's far too much to read and think about to fit on a Q&A site on this.
