How do I set the “end” when dropping a type “range” in the timeline?

When dropping a type "range" item, the start is build from the place where the drop happens, but how do I set the end if I want to decide on the range "lentgh"? In the http://visjs.org/examples/timeline/other/drag&drop.html, these look like not constant and depending on zoom level. ( item "3" )
In my use case, I would like to decide on item "lengths"
