How to fix DataContext reset Problem for Binding ContextMenu under Treeview
I want to define TreeView and its ContextMenu as HierarchicalDataTemplate. The context menu shall change according to the treeview item selected. I have generated an ObservableCollection and binded the property of the class I want to display as texblock under treeview.
<!--Define the data template for the Treeview Item-->
<HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type data:CamTreeViewItem}"
ItemsSource="{Binding TreeViewItems}">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}" />
</HierarchicalDataTemplate>
<!--Define the data template for the Context Menu of the Treeview Item-
->
<HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type data:TreeViewContextMenu}"
ItemsSource="{Binding ContextMenuItems}">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding Header}" />
</HierarchicalDataTemplate>
Which I then use in
<TreeView x:Name="camTreeView" ItemsSource="{Binding TreeItems}" MouseRightButtonDown="CamTreeView_MouseRightButtonDown" Margin="10,30,0,0" Grid.ColumnSpan="2">
<TreeView.ContextMenu >
<ContextMenu MouseLeftButtonDown="ContextMenu_MouseLeftButtonDown" ItemsSource="{Binding ContextMenuItems}">
</ContextMenu>
</TreeView.ContextMenu>
This is the backup code where I set the datacontext:
private void SetupContextMenu(CamTreeViewItem selectedItem)
{
var contextMenuList = new TreeViewContextMenu();
switch (selectedItem.Type)
{
case "Machine":
var machineContext = new TreeViewContextMenu("machine related");
machineContext.ContextMenuItems.Add(new TreeViewContextMenu("under machine"));
machineContext.ContextMenuItems.Add(new TreeViewContextMenu("under machine2"));
var machineTop = new TreeViewContextMenu("top level");
machineTop.ContextMenuItems.Add(machineContext);
contextMenuList = machineTop;
break;
case "Operation":
break;
default:
break;
}
DataContext = contextMenuList;
}
Now I am facing two problems.
1- When I populate the context menu depending on the treeview item being selected, the DataContext is set to the new context so it deletes my treeview and shows only the ContextMenu.
2- "MouseLeftButtonDown" event in the context menu does not fire.
I guess I am making some fundemental mistakes in data binding and usage of DataContext. Do I need to define the context menu right under the treeview in xaml or can I define it as windows resource and bind it independent of Treeview?
Thanks for your help,
