AppBarLayout change scaletype of imageview

I have created an AppBarLayout for a ProfileActivity. I'm using an ImageView to have a background for said AppBarLayout.

Unfortunately the attribute android:scaleType="" doesn't change anything. I currently have it set to "centerCrop" but it doesn't adjust accordingly to that. Am I missing something, it seems like the setting gets overwritten to "fitXY".

Appreciate all help.
