How can I find the optimal max order of a B-Tree on stored disk?

0

I'm storing several millions of key/value pairs on disk in a B-Tree. Each key and value can be of arbitrary length (their size limited by an integer keeping track of their size). How can I find the optimal max order of a node while storing arbitrary length strings?

A similar question did not cover what could be done when the amount of data stored in each node was unknown.

A reference to how SQLite, MySQL, etc. handle this problem would be great!
