How can I use kickstart to automate the installation process of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on ESXi?
So, I have been trying to automate the process of installation of RHEL on my ESXi hypervisor. My ESXi is on a VM server and is in isolation from the local machine and its file system. Currently, only the CD/ROM is available on the ESXi for mounting the RHEL iso file. My question is: how do I bring my kickstart file into the picture here when I cannot use any NFS/HTTP because there is no connectivity and I cannot use the local storage of the machine, since I am on the VM server?
We have already seen the approach used for kickstart installation on a physical server, but since we are using a VM server, this approach is not working.
Some people have provided the method of incorporating the kickstart file into the iso file of RHEL but my organisation is concerned that creating a custom iso would not be feasible because we cannot afford to provide support for this and it is possible that Red Hat will not take any responsibility for a customized version of their iso file.
What I expect is a way to use this kickstart file on a VM server through ESXi. Am I missing some feature that is available on ESXi that can help me use the kickstart file simultaneously with the RHEL iso mounted on the CD/ROM?
