Checking Status of Recurring Payment in Payum Bundle/PayPal Express Checkout

0

I'm trying to set up recurring payment in Symfony 3.4 using Payum Bundle and paypal_express_checkout gateway. The code I'm working with is from a third party that doesn't provide support and it has integration for one-time payments as it stands but I'm trying to figure out how to change it to be recurring payments.

The idea is that the user will subscribe to certain US counties so that they can be displayed there as a form of advertising themselves on the site. I have an entity which is Profile and another entity County and I join them upon subscription. I believe with my current code that I have recurring payments working but still can't figure how how to check their status.

I know there's a notification or event that Paypal sends out but how do I hook this event?

I'm not sure what to try here because I don't know where to start. I've seen examples of other code but the code I'm working with is often times much different in syntax so I'm not sure how to translate what I see to what I have currently.

        if ($order->getGateway() == 'paypal') {
$gatewayName = 'paypal_express_checkout';

$storage = $this->get('payum')->getStorage(Payment::class);

$payment = $storage->create();
$payment->setNumber(uniqid());
$payment->setCurrencyCode($this->getParameter('app.currency'));
$payment->setTotalAmount($price * 100);
$payment->setDescription('A description');
$payment->setClientId($this->getUser()->getId());
$payment->setClientEmail('buyer-email@host.tld');
$payment->setDescription('Description here');
$payment->setOrder($order);
$payment->setDetails([
'L_BILLINGTYPE0' => Api::BILLINGTYPE_RECURRING_PAYMENTS,
'L_BILLINGAGREEMENTDESCRIPTION0' => "first item",
]);
$storage->update($payment);

$captureToken = $this->get('payum')->getTokenFactory()->createCaptureToken($gatewayName, $payment, 'order_paypal_completed');
return $this->redirect($captureToken->getTargetUrl());
}

return $this->redirectToRoute('order');
}

I also have a gist. The result is as it should be (from what I can tell) it's that I can't find how to check the status of it on a monthly basis.
